Just not happy with what you have Mark? Facebook is now on a spree of VR acquisitions the story gets great here and also plans to beam ads into the Oculus headset.
VR can help people escape from reality but there’s always a price to pay and this time it's ads.
Last week Facebook announced it’ll be testing VR ads with the motive of helping developers earn some revenue.
Data monitoring won’t happen at Oculus to target ads, but it will receive info about how people react/respond to a particular ad and allow users to hide specific ads or advertisers just like on Facebook.
Facebook is going all-in on VR
According to The Verge media, Facebook has become a near Monopoly in VR software and has also recently acquired 2 gaming studios
- Unity 2 Games
- Big Box VR
VR isn’t big yet but could be the next big thing
Facebook as of yet has sold only 10 million VR sets, which comes nowhere near to sony 100million+ sales in PlayStations
If Facebook continues to acquire talent and organisations at this phase we could see an action replay of what happened back in 2014, how a social media tool took over photo sharing and messaging with the acquisition of Instagram and Whatsapp.
The company now has more than 10,000 employees working on Facebook reality labs hardware division.
But on a more serious note, just look at the photo taken in 2016 to see just how serious is Zuck about taking over the VR market.
