Yesterday I read a journal about how drones could be used to reforest Planet Earth, learning about it was just cool and I’d like to share it with you my friends so buckle up. There are just many reasons out there why we need to reforest Planet Earth. Less than 5th of earth's original forests have survived the rise of humans since the last act of freezing/glaciation, and over half of them are in just five countries like Brazil, China, Peru and a few more.
The Biggest effect of the loss of forest might be the loss of habitat thereby breaking the whole food chain and the resultant loss of biodiversity, and no one care’s about climatic change. We’re literally burning acres of the Indonesian rain forest to plant palm trees just to get cooking oil did anyone think of the aftermath before doing such stuff. Forest biodiversity not only encompasses trees but also plants, animals and microorganism that live in forest areas. Over half a billion people depend on the dense forest for their survival, although we all humans depend on the forest in one way or the other.
Forest also acts as a major sinkhole of carbon on Earth, and losing them puts more carbon onto the atmosphere which is a very serious problem for humans. According to the International Panel on Climatic Change, there only remains about 10years to prevent the catastrophic effects of global warming. In 2019 43 billion tons of CO2 was released by humans into the atmosphere. Planting trees is the only way to withdraw carbon. But it will take planting hundreds of millions of trees every year. And we haven’t been successful in reforestation by using the power of human alone it was too slow so we needed some additional power. There came the saving hand flash forest.
Flash forest is a reforesting company that uses aerial mapping software i.e: Drone technology. Just think of it drones can do 5peoples 2 days work in just a day, without any wages. Hire two drone experts they can control like 10 drones thereby accelerating the pace. Flash Forest works with NGO’s, many forestry companies, and even government agencies to maximize the effort and cover more areas. Currently, Flash Forest is only active in Canada, but they are planning to scale its business all over the world. More than just planting trees they analyse the soil and find the native plantation there and plant that kind to maximize biodiversity.
Using such high tech methods flash forest cam map out the best planting locations and plants at a density of 1000 trees per hectare. People do visit the seeded areas to check on the condition and see how well is it planted. The cost of a sing tree is like 55 cents per tree, The company is planting like 100,000 seed plots every day by using two drones. By 2028 Flash Forest aims to plant 1billion trees.
